Ich brauche zu schlafen

Translation: I need some sleep! 30 may be the new 20 (or is 40 the new 20--I forget), but I just can't pull late nighters the way I used to...

Time for a nap!

Proving once again that everyone is a graphic designer

Mo mitts

Because one clearly cannot have enough fingerless gloves this winter season, I have already begun working on my second pair.

The pattern is Interweave Knits Nicholas's Fingerless Gloves. I am using the lovely Lana Grossa Pashmina (22% cashmere, 78% merino wool). Inspiration provided by Foxy Crochet.

The best part about making your second pair of fingerless gloves? That you can wear the first set while knitting the second!

Warning: completely unnecessary narcissistic mitt post follows

Fun with macintosh photo booth.

Mt. Tam Mitts

FO pics.

Unfortunately we subscribe to the lounge-level school of lighting. However, I love these fingerless mitts. Really. I can't take them off long enough to block them--they're just that fabulous.

Hats off to Lady Cashmere a.k.a. Foxy Crochet for a fabulous pattern.

Fingerless Glove FO

Yes, that's right. I have officially finished a lone, mock-cable fingerless glove in the decadent cashmere yarn I received at last weekend's yarn retreat. Hooray!

Unfortunately, the lighting is so dark in my house that I just can't get a decent photo after dark--I guess I'll have to try again tomorrow when I get home from work...of course it will probably be dark then, too...maybe I can swing a pic during lunch...

In the meantime, here's a pic of our last carved pumpkin.

Tomorrow morning he'll be curbside. Farewell, Jack. The porch will seem far less festive without you.

Sea Socks

While I do not have the pleasure of attending Sea Socks '07 (long story short: boats + me = disaster), I do have the joy of working on some logo ideas.

Maybe the words "sea socks" should have the letters more uneven like they're riding the high seas...

Thoughts?

Restful, regenerative retreat

Had a wonderful time this past weekend at the MFA knitting retreat. We stayed on the grounds of the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, which turned out to be a rather gorgeous setting--it felt a little bit like Europe. Except for that persistent eucalyptus smell.

Good times were had by all--good company, good food, good wine, good yarn--a wonderful success. A few shots of the sumptuous surroundings:

A chapel just down the street

Chapel on the top of the hill

View of a castle-like building from the top of the hill--quite possibly another chapel (rumor has it that the first Harry Potter wrap party took place here since it is so Hogwartsy)

Not your mother's east coast pine cones

It was a veritable chapelpalooza, but was a welcome respite and rest. Did I mention that attendees also received several sumptuous skeins of yarn? Good times, indeed.

Knitting Retreat

Spending this weekend at a knitting retreat in Marin. Yay. This is a pic of one almost finished Mr. Tam Mitt, pattern courtesy of Lady Cashmere a.k.a. Foxy Crochet. I was hoping to have the pair complete for the weekend in case it is cold...

I still have 2 hours...

Topsy Turvy

A quick update on some of the more crazy events of late.

My baby sister had an emergency appendectomy this week. She is on the road to recovery and her dog, hubbie, and my parents are taking turns wrangling her through her recovery. Whew.

Second, there is a good chance I have developed an adult onset allergy to crustaceans. I simply love crabmeat. Steamed up with beer, vinegar, and Old Bay seasoning (then dipped in melted butter with garlic, black pepper and lemon or lime) it is one of my favorite indulgent meals.

I hadn't had the pleasure of chowing down on crabmeat in a few years...until this past weekend. It sure tasted good gliding down the gullet. But, about an hour later I broke out in hives all over my face and neck. And then the throat itching started. I downed my "emergency" (meaning chewable) allergy pills and luckily my throat never closed. So, I didn't need a trip to the ER. Whew.

On the down side, who knows what it is in that concoction that I am allergic to. Garlic? Vinegar? Crab? Beats me.

According to my mom, whose sage advice I always trust, with adult onset allergies for some reason you tend to be allergic to your favorite things. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Maybe I'll have to test the waters again. Perhaps next time we'll eat, and then drive over to the ER and wait outside in the car--just in case...
