Have a Spooktacular Halloween

Who says ruffles have to have ridges?

Finished knitting a store sample for Warren's store today. Finally.

It's a rather lovely ruffle scarf. It was actually quite easy, but a bit on the time consuming side since you cast on 500 stitches and eventually end up with 2000 stitches on the needles.

I must say I really enjoyed working with these yarns (both from Anny Blatt) and have a new fondness for the novelty yarn (real name escapes me but I call it easter grass). The entire finished scarf measures 14.5' (yep, that's feet). I decided to try it out folded in thirds and love the results. Super adorable, and surprisingly warm.

Love it.

What's that smell?

Wake up. Commute. Work. Commute. Work. Sleep.

Do it all over again.

Of course, the whole system unravels with a mere sleepless night.

Did you know that there are wild animals in SF city proper? Well, there are. And last night around 3am they were rooting around near the garbage cans outside of my bedroom window.

What were they? Skunks. And they sprayed. Right by the door in the bedroom which conveniently opens to the great outdoors.

As a supersmeller (not much of a super power--especially when you live in the city) I couldn't go back to sleep. That would have been far, far too easy.

Instead I had the joy of swallowing that tiny bit of vomit in the back of my throat and trying to rub various ointments and balms under my nose so that I could attempt to inhale an inoffensive odor whilst sleeping.

Carmex under nose + t-shirt tied strategically around nose and mouth + head under pillows and covers = still no sleep.

On a brighter note, I've been meaning to blog about a fabulous gift I received in the mail. Thanks, nootise for the amazing stamp. It's a photo real kitty head--love it! Currently stamping all over the house. Everything is fair game.

I bring you love

A nice furry heart shaped ball of ms. mabel and I send our warmest regards. We've been too busy working, sleeping, and knitting to blog. Our sincerest apologies.

Smell the leaves

Nothing to see here. No knitting. Completely knitless.

Look at the pretty pictures (from just outside my office).

It smells just as lovely as it looks--except when the entire town smells like manure.

Knitting update

Finally finished lacy scarf sample for Marin Fiber Arts. Here it is in all of it's glory--photo taken in front of MFA on knit night.

Otherwise, still chugging along on Boise wrap. Hopefully will join fourth ball of yarn this week. (6 balls total).

I gave in and purchased the yarn for Swallowtail (Fall Interweave Knits). See sample here. I simply have to make this wrap. After that, who knows...maybe I'll give that old Rowan dress another whirl...or maybe I'll finish that rose cabled sweater coat...or maybe I'll give in to the KDD and just keep working on each of them piecemeal...

Tinkin', winkin' and drinkin'

Tink tink tink
Tink tink tink
Tink that Boise
Tink that Boise...

Yep, since Thursday last I have spent quite a bit of time delicately tinking the Boise wrap. [For those unfamiliar with the term, tink is knit backwards and that is also the literal definition.]

This yarn, because of it's amazing superfuzzy qualities, is a bitch to tink. Even with a great deal of delicacy, the yarn still disintegrated in my fingers on Saturday, resulting in several choice expletives and a side of tears.

Which resulted in some wine...which helped ease my tinking pain, and may have also given me the alcohol-fueled freedom to rip/tink with reckless abandon.

I had been making such good progress each week...but this week nada. I can't bring myself to even touch the wrap--I'm afraid to make another sleep deprivation fueled mistake.

This pic shows how far I had to rip, I mean "tink", backwards on the wrap. The new knitting isn't yet all fuzzy...if you sort of squint you can see where the halo of fuzz ends.

Side view.

Ponk-in!

Yep, we've gotten our first pumpkins of the season and they are just adorable! Love pumpkins. Now that we're on the west coast, pumpkins are about as close as we get to feeling like we have seasons. Looking at these 'lil guys you can almost imagine the smells of fall. Smell it!

Hopefully fall won't end up smelling like pumpkins rotting on the counter...
