Beer pong. Good times.
If you are familiar with the game to which I refer above, then you probably went to college on the east coast, where there was lots of cold, snowy weather and not a lot to do in small college towns.Tonight, while prepping for tomorrow's 7 person Thanksgiving extravaganza, I had the chance to relive a bit 'o college by playing beer pong while waiting for pies to bake. Good times.
You line up 6 cups of beer like bowling pins (generally plastic cups only 1/2 full of beer) on each end of a table. Generally, any old kitchen table will do, but a regulation length ping pong table helps.
You have two teams (either individuals or tag teams). Each team has several ping pong balls, and takes turns trying to toss the balls into the cups of beer at the other end of the table.
If a ball lands in the cups you're guarding, you chug the beer.
I was a bit of a college beer-pong champion, so it was fun to relive old times. Plus, it really helped Thanksgiving prep just fly by...
As long as I don't end up with a hangover tomorrow...
The California Flake Factor
It is something my friends, family and those from far away places have mulled over for ages...what exactly is it about Californians that allows them to back out of plans at the last minute...for any reason...without any warning...is it something in the air or water? Is this something in their genes?
Last Friday I was supposed to be having drinks with a gaggle of friends, it was supposed to be a veritable colliding of worlds...but every single one of them flaked. Every...last...one. Then, I was supposed to meet a group over at the Kristi Yamaguci ice rink for some noontime figure skating...and every single one of them flaked, too! And, this was a different group...
I'm starting to take it personally...
I think I'm having a midlife crisis...
Seriously. I think I am.
My new work mascot...
The Holiday Stash
Oh, you know what I'm talking about. Don't even pretend that you don't. It's time again to knit up a flurry of fuzzy, delicious holiday gifts for friends and family. A couple of stash photos. Next up, update on cable sweater for 1-year-old nephew.
This just in, local news station wastes precious time covering same old bigfoot story
As a rule I never, ever watch local news. It is trite and ridiculous. Especially here in the Bay Area. This is the only place I have ever lived that makes each and every story reported on about the Bay Area. Literally.
Fire somewhere else? Jeez, it is nothing like that fire we had in the bay area back in 1987...
Last night I was watching some embarrasing television, as people do, and was appalled by the many local news promos focusing on bigfoot, aka sasquatch, aka the abominable snowman. I mean, hello, there is most certainly real news to report on...riots in Paris...the war...veterans' day...When did news become 100% entertainment, 0% fact?
Same S*$%, Different Day
What a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Seriously. Every time I thought it couldn't get any worse it did. So many fire drills... Including a design project for which I was given all of 20 minutes. That isn't even an exaggeration. I was handed the project at 2:38 and a comp, spec, and slices were due by 3pm. Sigh. As the day went on things spun more and more out of control...
At least I had the leftover free sandwiches from faux husband's jury duty to look forward to.
Time for some knitting therapy...
Punk-in!
Here it is, the office jack-o-lantern. Make sure you call facilities and let 'em know that we've got an open flame burning in there and we're proud of it. Besides, the flame is retarding the growth of super mold which started growing the minute we started carving...
My contribution here was the teeth--I had to carve and run...
What you can't tell from this photo is that the pumpkin is really only about eight inches tall...
Coming soon to a milk carton near you, a mug shot of his bigger, older brother who mysteriously turned up missing this morning...
